Think outside your school

by admin

As the pools of applicants get larger and more and more qualified, you need to differentiate yourself outside your school’s clubs and teams. Instead of fighting for the one spot to be Editor and Chief of the school newspaper, look to create opportunity in your community, nationally and internationally. Don’t fight for the one student intern spot at your local newspaper, approach another newspaper and pitch yourself as their student columnist.

Or better yet, start your own publication, and interview other students to fill in positions to help. Write a letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal or another paper or magazine on a relevant topic. Write a blog.
